Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.8

General
A very light, small, and capable so-called "normal" lens. Relatively cheap, it delivers exceptional quality for its price tag.

Pros/Cons
+ small and light, it easily fits in your bag's secondary pockets
+ excellent image quality between f/2.8 and f/5.6, more than decent @ f/1.8
+ focal length/maximum aperture combo make this one of the best low-light lenses (when you don't want to mortgage the house to get a lens, anyway)

- Schizophrenic Goldilocks. Sometimes the focal length is JUST right, in others is either too short or too long.
- f/1.8 is sharp alright, but it requires focus discipline to get it right (Depth of Field very short; practice)
- Autofocus isn't slow, but not fast either.

The sharpness and overall value of this lens greatly surpass its price tag

Intended Users
Great for:

• The lens for everything when you travel. Yes, sometimes it might be too long/short, but few lenses can be so all-around. Trust me.
• People taking a lot of indoor shots without flash.
• Children portraits.

Not for:

• Sports. Some people will wonder whether this is a sports/activity lens. Nop, too short and autofocus just a bit on the slow side.
• people who don't want to improve their focus discipline and knowledge overall. The lens is sharp @ f/1.8, but people often complain because they don't realize how shallow the depth of field is there.
• Too narrow spaces - this is not a wide-angle lens, by any stretch of the imagination.

Final Verdict
An excellent lens - with very few weaknesses. I own one and I will continue to use it unless if I gave up on DX. Focusing will require some practicing - especially with moving subjects, the focus latitude is unforgiving between f/1.8 and f/3.5. Even with a sophisticated autofocus system, like the D300's, it's too much to expect. You should definitely get this lens, unless if you already own and like a 50mm fast lens. Personally I prefer the 35mm & 85mm combo - I consider the 50mm a compromise between owning both.
